FireFox Annoyance 2

A while ago I reported on a tweak with version 1.0.x of Firefox that force pages to open up in a new tab instead of a new window.

The behaviour changed under Firefox 1.5 and it has really annoyed me. The hidden options for forcing a new tab are now permanently visible (yeah!), however if a new window tries to open that specifies a particular size (height and width) then the new default behaviour is to allow a new window to open.

To force Firefox to open all windows in a new tab regardless then type about:config into the URL, hit Enter, scroll down and find the value browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction, change the value to 0.

You will need to restart FireFox for the settings to take effect.

CISSPing

Taken some time of work to go watch the Commonwealth Games (which was just awesome) and to study for my CISSP - two weeks to go.

The more I am studying for my CISSP the more I think a lot of the content should be a prerequisite to getting a security job rather than having four years experience before you can sit the exam.

I am fairly fortuneate that through past/current employment and my Grad Dip in InfoSec that I have had exposure to most of the 10 Common Body of Knowledge domains. But there is still a lot of ground to cover... I am sure you have heard it before in reference to the CISSP "an inch deep and a mile wide", that said I am mildly optomistic of passing the exam but ask me a again in a week the answer may not be that optomistic :-)

The best two resources I have found for studying are the Shon Harris All In One CISSP Certification Exam Guide and the Official ISC Guide to the CISSP exam. The Shon Harris book is a lot easier to read (informal) and I recommend reading it first to get a basic understanding of the 10 domains. The Official Guide isn't as well written but is a lot more formal and the sample questions are a lot harder than the All In One Guide.

Looking forward to getting this out of the way as I have some code ready for release and a new project (Unify) that I want to get started on.
